About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to join our growing global IT team and help drive meaningful transformation across our business. You’ll play a hands-on role in replacing legacy systems, delivering scalable cloud-first solutions, and exploring the value AI can bring to our people and customers. This is an opportunity to work on real-world problems that impact how we operate, sell, and serve — while collaborating across borders in a team that values initiative, curiosity, and ownership.

As a senior member of our Engineering & Integration domain, you’ll also play a key part in supporting junior and mid-level engineers through mentoring, knowledge-sharing and technical leadership. You’ll be part of a small, cross-functional team working in a modern AWS environment, delivering solutions that impact millions of transactions globally.

If you want to work somewhere where your ideas matter, where you’re trusted to get things done, and where change is embraced — we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Build modern cloud-first systems using AWS services such as CDK, Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB
  • Improve and upgrade legacy software by designing scalable microservices and implementing a serverless-first approach
  • Contribute to DevOps culture and practices including CI/CD, IaC, and cross-functional delivery
  • Support AI-based initiatives, including internal productivity tools and chatbots that help scale engineering excellence
  • Mentor junior engineers and help embed good engineering practices, clean code, and technical standards across the team

Required Skills and Experience

  • Deep understanding of AWS architecture and best practices, including experience designing scalable, secure, and cost-optimized solutions across multiple services
  • Strong experience with AWS serverless components including Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, and CDK
  • Experience building and deploying applications using Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. CDK, Serverless Framework, Terraform)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git, and cloud-native development patterns
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile environment and provide technical mentorship to less experienced engineers

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to AI developer tools such as Amazon QDev, Claude, Cursor, or similar
  • Background in breaking down monoliths and refactoring for scalable cloud deployments
  • Experience working across multiple AWS accounts or with distributed global teams
  • Previous experience in wholesale, logistics or manufacturing environments

Interview Process

  • Intro call with our Talent Team (30 Mins)
  • Technical interview over MS Teams with your future manager (60 Mins)
  • Final interview with some of our senior leaders and engineers over MS Teams (60 Mins)
  • Take-home technical challenge
  • Remote-first working environment
  • Flexible hours built around core team collaboration
  • Company Pension Scheme
  • Access to Champion Health, our Employee Wellbeing Platform

About Us

CEF (City Electrical Factors) was founded in 1951 in the UK and has grown to become the UK’s leading electrical wholesaler, with over 390 branches nationwide. In 1983, our North American arm, City Electric Supply (CES), was born — and together we’ve built a global presence supporting customers across the UK, Ireland, Spain, Holland, Australia, the USA and Canada.

Our IT team is at the heart of our future. We are modernising our systems, embracing cloud and serverless technology, and exploring how AI can enhance how we operate — but we’re doing it our way: with Care, Curiosity, Collaboration, and a genuine drive to Deliver Value.

We don’t believe in transformation for the sake of it. Every line of code, every product, every release — it all serves the goal of making life easier for our teams and our customers.

This is a place where your work matters. Where you\'re empowered to challenge, build, and improve. And where we’re open to new ideas, new ways of thinking, and people who want to get stuck in.
