Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Aviation & Aerospace Underwriter role based in the City of London. The role involves assessing and underwriting aviation and aerospace risks, including airlines, airports, manufacturers, and related operations, in line with company guidelines and risk appetite. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing submissions and technical documentation, analyzing exposure and loss histories, pricing risks, drafting policy terms, and preparing quotations. The underwriter will liaise with brokers and clients, negotiate coverage and pricing, and maintain strong relationships to support sustainable portfolio growth. The role also includes monitoring portfolio performance, contributing to product development, staying current with regulatory and market developments, and collaborating with internal teams such as claims, actuarial, and finance.

Qualifications

• Strong underwriting skills in aviation and aerospace lines, including risk assessment, pricing, and policy wording development.
• Solid analytical and quantitative abilities, with experience interpreting financial data, exposure information, and loss statistics.
• Effective relationship management and negotiation skills when working with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing underwriting reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of international insurance and reinsurance markets, including regulatory frameworks and industry best practices.
• High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure.
• Proficiency with standard office and insurance-related software and systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Risk Management) or equivalent professional experience.
• Progress toward or completion of relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CII or equivalent) is beneficial.
• Prior experience in aviation, aerospace, or specialty underwriting is strongly preferred.
