Who we are

Winner of the Best Place to Work at the Tech South West Awards 2025, City College Plymouth offers a culture the College is proud of. Our core values of Respect, Ownership and Integrity help create an environment that supports a passion for teaching and learning. These values guide our work as we enrich our community through knowledge, experience and skills so every student can achieve their best.

The Role

Are you looking to work as part of a highly collaborative focused catering and hospitality team, providing hospitality throughout the day and early evenings, for our students, staff, stakeholders and visitors? Is your approachable and supportive nature looking to make a real difference? The in-house catering team and department are vital in contributing towards the college's aim of students being able to achieve their full potential by providing catering facilities to them while they are on their journey of learning.

As part of the in-house catering team you can join a college department that has grown from small beginnings over the last couple of years to provide fresh and healthy prepared foods, meals and drinks throughout each day from its different outlets across the City College estate. Being a visible service for students from dawn to dusk, we strive to provide meals, refreshments and good service, standards and value to our students while they study here at City College Plymouth, so your ability to understand their needs in a catering and customer service role will be invaluable for our students to reach their goals and potential.

What Will You Bring to the Role

  • Adapting: Adapting to sometimes last-minute changes in procedures and new tasks to be completed at different moments through the academic year and switching between a variety of tasks within the catering department.
  • Collaborating: Building relationships with colleagues in your department and cross-college to ensure effective processing and a stronger student experience that the catering service provides.
  • Critical Thinking: Able to apply your knowledge and draw on others’ input to understand situations, evaluate options, and adapt your approach effectively to ensure the catering provision exceeds expectations.
  • Delivering: Able to see tasks through to completion, staying focused and working through challenges to get results personally but also as a catering department.

Benefits

City College Plymouth will offer you:

  • Career development opportunities.
  • Generous contributions towards your pension.
  • Free tea, coffee and lunch in our dedicated staff lounge.

How we recruit

We aim to recruit based on potential, not experience. We are interested in seeing your behaviours in action and how they will help you become successful at City College Plymouth, giving everyone the opportunity to show their potential, regardless of background or experience. After completing our online application form, you will be asked to complete an online assessment within a few days of this Vacancy closing. This assessment asks you no questions at all. Instead, it observes your behaviour and natural strengths in action, with a series of engaging, intuitive tasks. You will receive a report outlining your behaviours once you have completed the assessment, regardless of whether you progress to the next stage or not, providing you with some feedback.

The College welcomes applications from service leavers and the Armed Forces community, and supports those service leavers who are Reservists in any of the Armed Forces. The College reserves the right to close this advertisement early if sufficient applications have been received.
