Who we are

Winner of the Best Place to Work at the Tech South West Awards 2025, City College Plymouth offers a culture the College is proud of. Our core values of Respect, Ownership and Integrity help create an environment that supports a passion for teaching and learning. These values guide our work as we enrich our community through knowledge, experience and skills so every student can achieve their best. We take pride in offering a learning environment and organisational culture that contribute positively to the health, wellbeing and sustainability of our community and enable all our students and staff to achieve their full potential.

The Role

To guide, support, and assess apprentices throughout their apprenticeship programme, ensuring they develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to achieve their standard. Acting as the vital link between the apprentice, the employer, and the training provider, the Assessor ensures high-quality delivery that meets Ofsted standards and Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) compliance guidelines, ultimately preparing learners for a successful End-Point Assessment (EPA).

What Will You Bring to the Role

  • Composure: When faced with external setbacks, the assessor must maintain complete composure and determination to guide the learner back on track.
  • Adapting: An assessor must switch efficiently between diverse tasks daily, seamlessly moving from conducting a formal progress review with an apprentice to giving feedback on a business project or handling unexpected changes to an employer's schedule.
  • Decision-Making: Assessors must remain focused and controlled in time-sensitive situations, making quick, appropriate decisions regarding a learner’s readiness for their End-Point Assessment (EPA).
  • Navigating Uncertainty: Because workplaces and learner circumstances can change rapidly, an assessor must confidently navigate uncertainty, learning from past experiences to anticipate and mitigate risks to a learner's progress.

Benefits

City College Plymouth will offer you:

  • Holiday: 29 days plus bank holidays and College Closure over Christmas.
  • Career development opportunities.
  • Generous contributions towards your pension.
  • Free tea, coffee and lunch in our dedicated staff lounge.
