City Capital are currently representing a boutique bridging finance lender who are actively looking to appoint an ambitious and forward-thinking Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at an exciting time of expansion and ambition.

The Company

Our client offers a range of short-term property finance products that are tailored to suit the complex borrowing needs of a diverse pool of real estate investors, developers and SME businesses. Boutique in size but big in personality they are planning for growth and as a result are keen to bolster their senior leadership function to help drive exciting lending and revenue initiatives. The firm fosters a collaborative entrepreneurial culture where team members are encouraged to take ownership and contribute meaningfully allowing for a culture of autonomy and teamwork which work hand-in-hand.

They require an experienced CCO / Sales Director who can take the lead on matters as outlined below.

Role Overview

As (CCO) you will report directly to the board and be integral in devising and driving the company’s short- and long-term strategies and goals across all aspects of the business with a particular focus on the lenders’ front end functions. Day-to-day you will lead and grow the lending team with responsibility for the company’s annual lending targets, team growth, revenue objectives and growth milestones. Upon joining you will immediately inherit the current team with a view to expanding this in line with agreed strategy.

To achieve this you will devise and implement aspects such as origination / business development strategies targeting lending growth through strategic broker and borrower engagement with the team. You will oversee the lending pipeline for the business ensuring case managements and underwriters are achieving the required productivity and outcomes to meet the business needs. You will actively seek to optimise and improve all aspects of sales and service to enhance borrower experience and commercial results including supporting aspects such as product development and relationships with funding. You are shaping the business to onboard and manage a growing level of applications and funded loans that drive loan book growth. Ultimately you will be critical in assisting our client with their growth objectives and you will connect with the portfolio management function on shared opportunities and broader business planning.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the board on strategic planning and business growth
  • Inherit & grow the front-line lending team to cover sales and underwriting
  • Monitor KPIs and performance metrics to identify gaps and implement improvements
  • Actively coach and develop team members to upskill current capacity
  • Report on origination & underwriting performance outcomes
  • Recruit to your team the required skills that supports the business’ growth focus
  • Act as Player / Manager with key accounts and major market partners
  • Assist with deal assessment and structuring of larger more complex loans
  • Collaborate with other business unit leaders and external partners for best success
  • Play a key role in credit decisioning alongside the credit committee
  • Ensure a customer-first approach across all activities for service satisfaction

Candidate Requirements

The ideal individual for the CCO role will be a highly experienced sales and / or underwriting leader ideally from the bridging or development finance sector or ready to take that first step up into such a role from a Senior BDM or UW position. You will be accomplished when managing and growing front line lending teams or activity and will have an outstanding understanding of the end-to-end lending cycle for short term property loans. You will be strategic in approach and capable of implementing, assessing and improving key strategies for loan origination underwriting and will balance this with an openness to roll up your sleeves and undertake any challenge that supports the needs of a boutique and growing firm.

A demonstrable track record of leadership or mentorship within short term lending

An excellent understanding of the full lending cycle for bridging finance

Ability to manage strategic planning with day-to-day delivery and outcomes

A strong knowledge of the credit risk principles that underpin sustainable lending

Proven ability to develop and manage high-value client relationships and partners

Entrepreneurial mindset with a pro-active solution focused approach

Collaborative leadership style that inspires, empowers and motivates teams

Strong interpersonal and communication skills ability to influence at all levels

On Offer

Our client is ideally looking to pay up to around £120k as a basic salary for the ideal individual, which will be relevant to experience. Higher offers may also be considered for an exceptional track record in the short-term lending markets. Salary will be complemented by access to our client’s favourable bonus scheme too, allowing you to substantially increase annual earnings based on performance. Notably, due to the growth plans outlined and the capacity for the arriving CCO to have a real and meaningful impact on future success, it is worth noting that opportunities to propel salary and career standing forward within may be prevalent where excellent performance is delivered. As the company grows so will the hierarchy, creating long-term potential for you on the basis of your success.
