Senior Manager of Recruitment and Talent Management
The EMS Design Engineer specializes in HVAC Controls.
Location: Burlington, MA (4 days onsite, 1 remote day per week)
Job Purpose
We’re hiring an EMS Design Engineer with a focus on Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS). This role is ideal for engineers passionate about optimizing building performance through smart technology.
You will design and configure control systems that automate and monitor HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, and leak detection systems across commercial and retail environments. Work includes PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA integration, and IP-based remote diagnostics. This is a hybrid role based out of our Burlington, MA office.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and configure Building Automation and Energy Management Systems (EMS) for HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, and leak detection
- Develop process diagrams, SCADA block diagrams, control schematics, and technical documentation
- Program and implement PLC/HMI control logic to manage I/O (temperature sensors, valves, relays)
- Monitor, test, and analyze system performance to identify issues and improve energy efficiency
- Utilize IP-based remote access tools to diagnose and support building systems across multiple sites
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure successful system implementation
- Conduct site reviews and support preventative maintenance (PM) and lifecycle improvement strategies
- Assist in upgrades, expansions, and retrofits to improve system scalability and reliability
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering
- 3+ years’ experience in EMS, BAS, or building controls engineering
- Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming and controls integration
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, I/O logic, and low-voltage control design
- Experience with remote diagnostics via IP-based tools
- Strong communication, coordination, and documentation skills
- Exposure to HVAC, refrigeration, or lighting systems
Preferred Skills
- Experience with EMS platforms such as Niagara, Tridium, Honeywell, Danfoss, Emerson
- Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, or similar protocols
- Background in supermarket, retail, or commercial energy systems
Travel: 10-20% (occasional overnight travel required)
