Citrus Recruit are excited to be recruiting for a Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Manager working within the Transportation and Haulage industry. This is a hands-on, operational role where you will work closely with senior leadership, transport and warehouse teams to embed a strong safety-first culture, ensure legal and customer compliance, and drive continuous improvement across multiple sites. You will play a key role in reducing risk, improving quality standards, and supporting safe, efficient logistics operations nationwide.
Responsibilities & day to day duties
- Leading and continuously improving SHEQ performance across haulage, warehousing and yard operations
- Developing, implementing and maintaining SHEQ policies, procedures and safe systems of work
- Ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation (including HSW Act, RIDDOR, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER where applicable)
- Conducting site inspections, depot audits, vehicle and yard safety checks
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, completing root cause analysis and managing corrective actions
- Managing SHEQ reporting, including statutory reporting and internal performance metrics
- Delivering SHEQ training, toolbox talks and safety briefings for drivers, warehouse and office staff
- Acting as the main point of contact for enforcement bodies (HSE, DVSA, Environment Agency)
- Managing environmental compliance including waste, spill prevention, pollution control and sustainability initiatives
- Maintaining quality systems and supporting internal and customer audits (ISO standards where applicable)
- Monitoring KPIs and producing regular SHEQ performance reports
- Championing a proactive safety culture and coaching managers to improve SHEQ ownership
Skills & experience required
- Proven experience in a SHEQ / Health & Safety management role within haulage, logistics, transport or warehousing
- Develop and maintain quality systems aligned to business requirements (e.g. ISO 9001/14001/45001 where applicable)
- Strong working knowledge of UK SHEQ legislation and its practical application in operational environments
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Confident, credible communicator able to engage drivers, warehouse teams and senior management
- Experience conducting audits, investigations and compliance reporting
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to depots and customer sites
