Our client is a highly successful and innovative engineering organisation that designs and manufactures cutting-edge capital equipment for customers across the globe.

As a Software Systems Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in the development, enhancement and support of sophisticated automation and machine control systems.

Working closely with engineering, production and product development teams, you'll help deliver innovative software solutions that power world-class manufacturing equipment used by customers worldwide.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced software professional who enjoys combining software development with real-world engineering applications.

You'll have the chance to work on complex technical challenges, influence future product development, and gain valuable exposure to international projects and customer installations.

Responsibilities & day to day duties

As a Software Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for

  • Design, develop and maintain software and control systems for existing and new product platforms.
  • Analyse software requirements based on product specifications and customer needs.
  • Produce system specifications, software architecture documentation and interface definitions.
  • Develop high-quality software solutions using the most appropriate programming languages and technologies.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including module descriptions, test plans and validation procedures.
  • Verify and test software solutions to ensure compliance with functional and performance requirements.
  • Participate in software design reviews and present technical solutions to key stakeholders.
  • Implement bug fixes, software enhancements and system modifications to improve product performance and reliability.
  • Support customer installations and commissioning activities both in the UK and internationally when required.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the company's legacy software platforms and control systems.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes and engineering best practices.

Skills & experience required

  • Degree or HND qualified in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' commercial software development experience.
  • Strong VB. NET development experience within an engineering or industrial environment.
  • Experience developing software for automation, machinery, manufacturing systems or industrial applications.
  • Understanding of machine control, motion control systems and software-to-hardware integration.
  • Experience creating software specifications, design documentation and testing procedures.
