We are seeking a dynamic and commercially minded Development Manager to join our growing team at an exciting stage in our business journey. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious development professional to play a key role in the delivery of a wide range of projects, contributing to strategic growth and becoming a valued long-term member of the organisation.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years’ relevant experience in a Development Manager role within the property sector, with exposure to commercial-led projects of varying types and scale. The successful candidate may have some residential sector experience, but this should be complemented by varied experience from other sectors, reflecting the diverse activities of our multi-sector business.
The role will also involve assisting in securing new opportunities, both within the North East and nationally, working closely with the existing team. Occasional travel outside the region will be required, including visits to our London office, along with some out-of-hours work or travel as business needs dictate.
Key Responsibilities- Day-to-day development management of projects, reporting directly to a Director
- Preparing and maintaining accurate reports and effectively utilising management systems
- Preparing financial appraisals and feasibility reports for new and existing projects
- Lead on property/land acquisitions and negotiations when required
- Supporting the appointment and coordination of professional and design teams
- Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of planning applications
- Maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity with stakeholders, partners, investors, purchasers, and communities
- Working collaboratively across the UK with directors and project teams as required
- Attending and inputting to our operational and board meetings
- Supporting the identification and acquisition of new commercial and residential development opportunities
- Undertaking asset management and letting-related tasks on existing and new projects
- Minimum 7 years’ experience with proven track record in a development management role
- Strong understanding of the full development lifecycle including planning, legal, funding, construction, marketing, management and sales/investment
- Commercially driven mindset with the ability to identify and add value
- Can identify, assess and mitigate risks
- Self-motivated, proactive team player who integrates well within established teams
- Excellent communication skills and able to motivate teams to achieve agreed objectives
- Confident in preparing financial appraisals and feasibility assessments
- Comfortable using reporting and project management systems
- Flexible and adaptable, willing to take on new challenges beyond core experience
- High level of organisational skills and attention to detail
