About The Role

Citizens Advice Lewisham is pleased to be working in partnership with the Merchant Taylors’ Foundation to deliver an ambitious and community-focused Training Academy. This programme will establish sustainable, community‑based advice hubs while equipping local residents with the skills, knowledge and confidence to become trained volunteer advisers. The Volunteer and Outreach Supervisor will play a central role in the success of this initiative. The postholder will be responsible for coordinating outreach advice services across Lewisham, while also leading on the recruitment, development and supervision of volunteers. The role brings together operational delivery with people development, ensuring that high‑quality advice is delivered from day one while building a strong and sustainable pipeline of local talent. This is a role that requires both practical coordination and thoughtful leadership. It will suit someone who is confident working across community settings, committed to social impact, and motivated by the opportunity to develop others while delivering meaningful services to residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train and provide ongoing development for volunteers, identifying and attracting individuals from local communities and ensuring inclusive, accessible recruitment processes.
  • Provide regular supervision, mentoring and feedback to volunteers, helping them build confidence and develop the skills required to deliver advice effectively, and maintain accurate records of volunteer progression.
  • Coordinate outreach services across a range of community settings, including planning and scheduling sessions, ensuring appropriate staffing and resources are in place, and working flexibly across multiple locations.
  • Ensure outreach services reach those who need them most, particularly individuals facing barriers to accessing traditional advice channels.
  • Supervise volunteers delivering advice, review casework, and provide constructive feedback to maintain compliance with Citizens Advice standards and ensure accurate, effective advice.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local partners, community organisations, statutory services and referral partners to promote awareness of the service and strengthen community engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to monitoring and reporting requirements, and support programme evaluation, including tracking volunteer outcomes, service delivery and client impact.
  • Support wider organisational work by collaborating with colleagues, supporting service development and upholding a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working with, supporting or managing volunteers.
  • Experience coordinating services, ideally in a community or outreach setting.
  • Understanding of advice services or similar client‑focused support provision.
  • Knowledge of working with vulnerable or diverse communities.
  • Awareness of learning, training or development approaches.
  • Accredited as Citizens Advice Supervisor or equivalent qualification.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate, support and develop individuals.
  • Ability to organise and coordinate work across multiple locations.
  • Ability to monitor performance and maintain quality standards.
