Join our dynamic People & Strategy Directorate and become a key driver of positive change, growth, and organisational excellence. This is a unique opportunity to lead internal communications and engagement within an organisation and wider network that is dedicated to fostering adaptability, accountability, and inclusion.

As Head of Communications and Engagement, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the way our colleagues and volunteers connect, collaborate, and thrive across the national organisation and wider Citizens Advice network. You will lead a talented team of communications and engagement specialists, overseeing a diverse range of activities that align with our strategic objectives. Your work will help ensure our workforce and wider network are informed, inspired, and empowered to deliver our mission-based approach to work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the organisation’s internal and network communications and engagement activities, ensuring all colleagues and volunteers feel connected, informed, and inspired.
  • Create and nurture communities and spaces that support our values and foster meaningful engagement across the national organisation and wider network.
  • Enable high performance and impact by ensuring that communications drive engagement and improve organisational effectiveness.
  • Lead and manage a team of communications and engagement specialists across creative content creation, community building, events, channel management, and stakeholder partnership.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to create spaces for open, transparent, and impactful dialogue, enhancing employee experience and engagement.

About You:

We are looking for a seasoned communications leader with a proven ability to manage teams and deliver engaging, strategic communications at an organisational level. You’ll be an expert in communications and engagement, with a track record of leading change and influencing a culture of collaboration and inclusion.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Significant experience in a senior internal communications or engagement role, ideally within a complex, mission-driven organisation.
  • A deep understanding of creative content creation, building communities, event management, and channel management.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels and facilitate meaningful, open dialogue.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and manage a team to achieve high performance.
  • A passion for fostering a culture of adaptability, accountability, and inclusion.

Essential Criteria:

  • A postgraduate qualification in communications and engagement, public relations, or a related field, or extensive work-based experience demonstrating an equivalent level of expertise and competence. The candidate should also show a strong commitment to staying updated on best practices in these areas.
  • Experience managing and developing a high-performing team and fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Extensive experience leading communications and engagement strategy within a large, complex organisation, and implementing communications and engagement interventions that support alignment with strategic goals and operational priorities.
