About Citizens Advice York
Citizens Advice York (CAY) is an independent local charity. We provide free independent advice and support to over 7,000 York people a year. The Trustee Board is responsible for the overall direction, strategy, financial security and performance of the Charity.
About the Role
We are looking for people with a wide variety of skills and a diversity of experience to serve on the Trustee Board. We are particularly interested in recruiting Trustees with the interest and experience to help develop further our fundraising activity, and/or with experience of dealing with equality issues. Knowledge or experience of Citizens Advice is not essential.
What We’re Looking For
We try to ensure our Board has a range of experiences and skills which reflect our entire community. We hope they bring this experience to enrich our conversations and decisions. Board level experience is helpful but not essential. Our current board would benefit from people with legal expertise and or an interest in fundraising.
What You Will Be Doing
The Trustee Board has responsibility for the overall direction, strategy, financial security and performance of the Charity. It’s stimulating, responsible work with an experienced and capable group. The Board of around 10 members normally meets six times a year. There are also committee, strategy and other meetings, including with staff and volunteers. Citizens Advice York is a member of the national Citizens Advice organisation who provide us with our infrastructure, training, and quality assurance. It is, though, an independent local charity at the heart of our community here in York, and is entirely funded by grants, donations and fees for contracted services. We are very fortunate to have committed volunteers and staff who deliver the advice; the Board's challenge is to ensure resources are available, and that we support staff and advisers to deliver to our clients.
