Location: Glasgow – 2–3 days per week onsite. Duration: 12 months.

My client is searching for an Automation & Observability Engineer to help drive automation initiatives and develop observability and alerting solutions aligned with the Firm’s data protection strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with internal teams to identify opportunities to improve the reliability of the data protection platform.
  • Automate issue resolution, enhance observability and alerting to speed up service recovery, or a combination of both.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to understand challenges and deliver effective solutions.
  • Interpret ambiguous requirements, advise stakeholders, and clearly communicate complex technical concepts.

Required Skills

  • Strong ability to interpret and refine ambiguous requirements.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python; familiarity with Perl and/or PowerShell is a plus.
  • Solid experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins).
  • Strong knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Cortex.
  • Significant hands-on experience with Ansible.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs.
  • Excellent debugging skills, including the ability to troubleshoot complex or unfamiliar issues beyond standard product documentation.
