Citisense is a traffic design consultancy and traffic data collection company delivering innovative transport solutions to public and private sector clients across the UK. We are offering a 3–6 month Internship within our Design Team, focused on kerbside and parking management schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring engineering technician to gain hands-on experience working on live projects across multiple UK local authorities.
As an Engineering Technician Intern, you will support the design and delivery of kerbside and parking schemes, contributing to projects that improve road safety, accessibility and urban mobility. You will gain practical experience in:
- Preparing design drawings using AutoCAD
- Assisting with kerbside layout design, parking bay schemes and traffic management proposals
- Amending and updating Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) drawings
- Producing technical drawings in line with TSRGD and relevant design guidance
- Supporting feasibility studies and preliminary design work
- Reviewing site data, survey outputs and existing highway layouts
- Assisting with swept path analysis and basic vehicle tracking (where applicable)
- Preparing drawing issue packs and revision updates
- Supporting project documentation and technical reports
- Liaising internally with engineers, survey teams and project managers
You will be working within a collaborative design team and will receive mentoring and structured support throughout your internship.
What We’re Looking For
- Studying (or recently completed) HNC/BTEC in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, or a related discipline.
- Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD (desirable but not essential)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawing
- Interest in highways, kerbside management, parking design or traffic engineering
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confident using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Full UK Driving Licence (desirable but not essential)
