Overview
In this Lead AI Engineer role, you will shape the technical direction of enterprise AI initiatives and mentor engineers within Citi’s global technology team. You will architect scalable AI-driven applications and data pipelines, focusing on production-ready systems that leverage data at scale. The position emphasizes RAG-based solutions, agent orchestration, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver impactful, compliant AI capabilities. You will own architectural decisions and drive quality through standards, tests, and risk management.

Responsibilities
- Architect and develop AI-driven applications and data pipelines using Python
- Lead design and implementation of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems and agent orchestration frameworks
- Collaborate with technology and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust implementations
- Define and enforce coding standards, testing practices, and implementation processes
- Evaluate business and system challenges to craft innovative solutions
- Coach and guide mid-level engineers and analysts, aligning work with project delivery
- Identify and manage technical risks, ensuring security, compliance, and platform integrity
Key requirements
- 6–10 years of software or application development experience
- Hands-on Python for application development, data ingestion, and ETL
- Experience building RAG pipelines and with ADK, LangGraph, or LangChain
- Advanced SQL skills for large-scale data queries
- Solid understanding of Transformer architecture in production AI
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver in fast-paced environments
- Strong communication skills to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
