Help shape the next generation of AI-powered products in Markets! Join a small, high-impact engineering team in Citi Markets Technology building greenfield Generative AI products that cut across asset classes and push beyond proof-of-concept into real production value. We are looking for AI-first engineers who are excited not just by using the latest LLMs, agents, and emerging design patterns, but by applying them with strong engineering discipline, sound judgement, and a relentless focus on quality.
The Team: We are a fast-moving team specialising in Generative AI within Markets Technology. Our focus is on building greenfield products that span multiple markets asset classes, solving real problems with modern AI engineering approaches. We work at the frontier of what is practical and valuable with LLMs - exploring agentic patterns, orchestration approaches, retrieval techniques, and emerging design ideas — while staying grounded in the fundamentals of robust software engineering.
This is an opportunity to join a team that is still small enough for every engineer to have genuine influence, but already delivering work that is making waves across Markets Technology.
The Role: As a Vice President in the team, you will be a hands-on engineer building and shaping next-generation AI systems for Markets. You will design and develop production-grade services and applications, primarily in Python, and help turn fast-evolving AI capabilities into scalable, maintainable, well-engineered solutions.
You will work on greenfield initiatives from idea through to production, contributing not only code but also architecture, patterns, engineering standards, and product thinking. We are looking for people who can see the bigger picture, bring ideas, challenge assumptions, and help us build the right thing - not just build the thing right.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, and evolve Generative AI solutions for Markets use cases across asset classes
- Engineer production-quality applications and services using Python
- Apply modern AI patterns including LLM orchestration, agentic workflows, retrieval-based approaches, and structured evaluation techniques
- Contribute to system architecture, engineering standards, and technical direction
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with a strong focus on quality and long-term ownership
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product partners, and business stakeholders to shape solutions with real impact
- Use AI not only in the products we build, but also in the way we engineer - agentic development with Devin, CoPilot and more!
- Bring initiative, curiosity, and original thinking to complex problems in a fast-moving space
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong software engineering experience, with deep hands-on expertise in Python
- Experience building scalable, production-grade systems rather than just prototypes
- Practical experience with Generative AI, LLM-based applications, or agentic systems
- A strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals, including design, testing, maintainability, and code quality
- An appreciation for the craft of code - we write Python, but we value the discipline, clarity, and rigor often associated with strongly typed languages
- Ability to operate in ambiguity, take ownership, and move ideas forward
- Engineers who think beyond tickets and requirements, and want to contribute to the overall shape of the solution
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
What Makes This Role Different: This is not a role focused on maintaining legacy systems or building isolated demos. This is a chance to help define how Generative AI is applied in Markets at meaningful scale. You will join a team that values engineering excellence, speed, and creativity in equal measure - a team using the latest AI capabilities, but doing so with the seriousness and technical depth needed to build real platforms and products.
If you are excited by greenfield AI engineering, passionate about modern software craft, and want to work in a team where your ideas and technical judgement will genuinely matter, we’d love to hear from you.
Recommended Qualifications:

- Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one area of Applications Development
- Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
- Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
Education: Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
What we’ll provide you:
- 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
- A discretionary annual performance related bonus
- Private Medical Care & Life Insurance
- Employee Assistance Program
- Pension Plan
- Paid Parental Leave
- Special discounts for employees, family, and friends
- Access to an array of learning and development resources
