The MD, Head of Business & Professional Services (B&PS) role is responsible for leading a group of talented bankers and leaders to deliver on the strategy for the industry sector. The role requires strong leadership acumen alongside the ability to lead senior client relationships up to c‐suite level. It forms part of the UK senior leadership team and is also a key component of the Global Industry team. A good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services is necessary to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. The role requires a thorough understanding of the strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and related subject areas.

Excellent communication skills are required to negotiate internally at a senior level and to interact with external stakeholders. The role is accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation and contribution to future strategy. It manages several teams, including a regional team in the North of England and a virtual team focused on financial sponsors and leveraged lending. The role reports directly to the Head of the UK Commercial banking and often spans across broader areas of the UK franchise.

Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation on the solutions we provide clients through partnerships with product specialists and subject matter experts, while structuring deals that balance risk and reward.
  • Execute strategic initiatives launched centrally at all levels (Group, Banking, CCB).
  • Oversee the credit relationship of the client, coordinating and supervising the entire process, ensuring the proper application of policies and institutional processes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Citi's policies/guidelines at all times.
  • Lead a team of Relationship Managers (RMs) and aspiring leaders, investing time in developing and coaching people.
  • Call on clients to deepen relationships and proactively own, respond to and anticipate future needs, roadblocks or risks, while identifying new areas for growth to deepen wallet share.
  • Focus on new business and develop a competitive strategy to position Citi in new relationships and grow the overall size of the business.
  • Attract, retain and motivate a team, manage a budget and meet team sales goals.
  • Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, while driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations and applying sound ethical judgement.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of experience.
  • In‐depth knowledge of all aspects of commercial banking; commercial credit knowledge and an ability to quickly learn new products and services.
  • Possesses sound judgement and is creative in providing credit/deposit solutions to bank clients.
  • Significant experience with commercial credit decision making authority, including complex capital structures and cross‐border transactions.
  • Minimum intermediate level credit skills with the capability to demonstrate advanced level credit skills to be appointed a senior credit officer.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting, helping build and contribute to strategy.
  • Comfortable working in a large, matrix environment.
  • Able to effectively interact with a variety of internal and external constituencies.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and leading teams through complex change, retaining, attracting and developing talent.
  • Proven leadership ability with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to express a sound opinion and present another viewpoint agreeably.
  • Full management responsibility of a team, including people, budget and planning, and duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary action and terminations.
  • Must have a sharp business development focus and demonstrate innovative approaches.
  • Able to quickly adapt priorities based on the latest data insights.
  • A flexible mindset, able to shift focus areas at pace. Agile leadership.

Education

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Masters degree/Accountancy background preferred and managerial experience.
