The Commercial Real Estate Senior Underwriter is a strategic professional who owns the underwriting, deal execution and portfolio management activities for its assigned client relationships within the Global Commercial Real Estate Clients team, focused on providing competitive commercial real estate financing solutions to Ultra High Net Worth and Family Office clients of our Wealth division across UK/Europe as well as globally.
Responsibilities- Work closely with senior underwriters and loan originators in the initial assessment and structuring of credit opportunities.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of commercial real estate assets (e.g., office, industrial, retail, hospitality, multifamily) and associated sponsors/borrowers, including historical performance, pro forma cashflow projections and sensitivity analysis, tenancy schedules, operating costs, balance sheet analysis.
- Conduct due diligence leveraging research and due diligence report providers.
- Prepare well‑reasoned and succinct credit approval memorandums, identifying key risks and mitigants; make credit decision recommendations including risk ratings and regulatory classifications.
- Assist with the negotiation of legal documentation for new, refinancing, or restructuring transactions, negotiating credit facilities with the assistance of external legal counsel.
- Interact with clients, their representatives and advisors, as required throughout the initial underwriting, deal execution and portfolio management of loans.
- Manage the periodic information, covenant monitoring, annual reviews, waivers & extensions for each credit relationship, managing appropriate hand‑offs to the portfolio management support team.
- Proactively identify early warning signs of credit deterioration and elevate concerns to senior portfolio managers, proposing corrective actions.
- Ensures all transactions are in compliance with regulatory and Citi guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Stay abreast of trends and developments within relevant markets.
- A good track record of relevant experience.
- Strong and proven analytical, financial analysis, due diligence and execution skills.
- Experience in commercial real estate and credit risk underwriting strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Team player attitude and ability to work independently.
- Good negotiation and diplomacy skills.
- Displays flexibility and initiative in a demanding environment.
- Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience.
