The Investment Banking Associate in the Financial & Strategic Investors Group is an intermediate level position in Citi's Sponsors team for assisting private equity clients in raising funds in the Capital Markets, as well as in providing strategic advisory services for Mergers, Acquisitions and other types of financial transactions in coordination with the Institutional Banking team. The Associate is expected to work with Senior Bankers across EMEA in business origination and execution across Citi's product set, with particular focus on financing and M&A transactions. The overall objective of this role is to drive revenue by cross selling the Citi platform while efficiently deploying the firm's capital and evaluating and managing risk.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Sponsor Franchise in covering clients and help increase our market share in the Sponsors business
- Develop intimate knowledge of our Private Equity clients strategies, portfolios and investment criteria
- Assist in the execution of Citi's Investment Banking business activities by working alongside Sectors, Country and Product (M&A, Leveraged Finance and Equity Capital Markets) teams
- The role will be focused primarily on origination which involves coordination across the bank to best position the firm (incl. owning asset campaigns, buyer databases, generating content / ideas for our clients, etc.) as well as ownership of our clients relationships
- Leverage past investment banking or related experience to enhance M&A execution and capital raising capabilities
- Manage and mentor analysts by providing detailed guidance and feedback, managing information flow, and providing credit and exposure information to analyst, as appropriate
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Recommended Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or closely related areas of Business Administration
- Master's degree in Business Administration
- Experience in evaluating corporate transactions and structures
- Experience creating financial analyses
- Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills
- Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Experience assisting with client development
- Ability to work with teams and track business development (collect research, analyze industry trends)
Education:
- Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
