Collateral Optimization Operations in Markets Operations is an expanding team established to deliver best-in-class capabilities in collateral management, inventory management, risk management and collateral efficiency. The team will support global Markets businesses working across products and regions, with a broad range of stakeholders. The objective of the team is to deliver efficient, controlled and scalable collateral funding, allocation and optimization, supporting cost reduction and capital efficiency.

The successful Director candidate will lead the global team performing daily collateral funding, projections and optimization activities and processes in addition to driving the delivery of new efficiency and risk management initiatives. They will work in close partnership with the Collateral, Funding and Liquidity Desks covering both fixed income and equities products and other key stakeholders across Operations, Technology, Markets, Finance, Legal, Risk & Treasury.

Transformation

The Collateral Optimization Program for Markets is a multi-year investment initiative with a clear transformation objective. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving collaboration across groups, developing, and reviewing requirements, developing a target operating model, designing robust processes, and implementing new platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily collateral management and optimization activities such as multiple collateral funding projections, triparty management, collateral realignment, efficient collateral placement to meet exposure, liquidity and regulatory objectives, and drive and deliver key optimization plans and strategies.
  • Sponsor and drive key strategic initiatives and programmes and investments as a senior member of the Margin and Collateral Operations leadership team.
  • Ensure products and/or services are well designed, ensuring developments are in line with the target operating model and design standards through close partnerships with Margin & Collateral Operations leadership.
  • Ensure product and/or service developments are well executed, delivered on time, meeting the stated risk, efficiency, regulatory and commercial objectives, and within time and budget.
  • Drive key transformation initiatives: lead and deliver work efforts driving risk reduction, cost reduction, client service excellence and revenue opportunities.
  • Work effectively with Citi stakeholders: partnering closely with key groups such as Technology, Markets businesses, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance and other supporting functional groups.
  • Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of information in complicated, unique and dynamic situations; draw on a diverse range of internal and external sources.

Skills & Qualifications

BA/BS degree preferred. Extensive experience in financial services with specific experience leading transformation or production functions in margin and collateral, with a strong appreciation of margin processes, regulations, securities products, practices, and risks, and/or product/service design, execution and delivery of large strategic change programmes. Preferably at large financial services firm. End-to-end knowledge of margin and/or collateral optimization, including the impacts on liquidity, capital, financial reporting, books and records and securities and margin & collateral practices and infrastructure. In particular deep understanding of collateral flows associated with major triparty collateral service providers.

Strong, influential communicator who is articulate and concise demonstrated success interacting with senior business, operations, and technology stakeholders. Experience articulating broad strategies to senior stakeholders, driving broad-based and high impact implementations. Innovative, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a leader who can positively and productively add product impact to both strategic and tactical technology. Thinks logically and is good at problem solving. Result orientated. Able to write clearly and concisely. To present ideas and proposals to senior decision makers without technical jargon. Demonstrate sound judgement and a strong risk management mindset, demonstrated through implementing sound controls and processes. Ability to establish and build trust with professionals throughout the business as a leader, advisor and business partner to the organization with a clear client orientation. Strong awareness of both external and internal best practice perspectives, maintaining a balanced and fresh viewpoint. Strong risk and control mindset ability to identify sub-optimal processes, drive robust capabilities with a clear focus on robustness and transparency.
