Our FX Technology platform underpins the world’s largest Markets FX business, operating continuously 24/7across more than 87+ countries globally.

FX Partnerships technology provides FX services to Citi’s leading Payments and Custody businesses.

The stability, scalability, and evolution of this platform are critical to the firm’s clients, markets, and reputation.

We are seeking a passionate, hands‑on technologist—someone who believes deeply in using technology to enable, protect, and grow the FX business.

While deep engineering experience is essential, we value attitude, aptitude, and leadership mindset over any single technology or toolset.

This role will lead application development teams, setting technical direction, raising engineering standards, and building strong, resilient engineering teams.

The role will be shaped around the right individual, recognizing that exceptional senior engineers bring different strengths.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior‑level engineering leadership across the FX Partnerships Technology platform, spanning application development and core engineering capabilities.
  • Own the technical health, resilience, and evolution of a mission‑critical, globally distributed, 24/7 platform.
  • Set and continuously raise engineering standards across architecture, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
  • Drive the design and development of scalable, resilient system architectures in close partnership with business stakeholders.
  • Application Development & Core Engineering
  • Lead multiple application development teams responsible for delivering core FX Partnerships platforms.
  • Own and evolve core engineering components and shared capabilities that underpin the platform.
  • Balance delivery speed with platform stability, resilience, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure systems are designed for operability, performance, and availability at global scale.
  • People & Culture
  • Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineering leaders and managers across regions globally.
  • Build teams that value curiosity, accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous learning.
  • Attract and develop engineers with strong fundamentals, great attitudes, and a passion for solving complex problems.
  • Create an environment where engineers are empowered to challenge, improve, and innovate.
  • Strategy, Delivery & Stakeholder Partnership
  • Partner closely with Markets business leaders to align technology priorities with FX & Services business strategy.
  • Contribute to the long‑term technology vision for FX, including modernisation, simplification, and scalability initiatives.
  • Own delivery execution across a complex portfolio—planning, prioritisation, budgeting, and progress transparency.
  • Prepare and present regular updates to senior technology and business leadership.
  • Risk, Control & Production Excellence
  • Ensure change is delivered with strong engineering discipline, governance, and controls appropriate to a global regulated business.
  • Maintain robust production management practices, including incident management, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Own disaster recovery and resilience strategies, overseeing testing and readiness for all critical applications.
  • Proactively identify, manage, and accelerate technology and operational risk.
  • Leadership & Communication
  • Act as a visible and credible senior engineering leader within FX Technology.
  • Lead local and global forums, sharing platform vision, progress, and priorities.
  • Role‑model ethical behaviour, accountability, and sound judgement in all decision‑making.
  • What We’re Looking For
  • A senior engineer and technology leader, comfortable owning complex, business‑critical platforms.
  • Deep experience leading application development and/or core engineering teams at scale.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and architectural judgement, regardless of specific technology background.
  • A passion for using technology to solve real business problems in fast‑moving markets.
  • A leadership philosophy that values people, potential, and culture as much as delivery.
  • Experience working in or with global, distributed engineering teams, including India.
  • Ability to balance innovation with resilience, risk management, and regulatory discipline.
  • Extensive experience in senior engineering or technology leadership roles within financial services, markets, or similarly complex regulated environments preferred (Ideally FX).

How to prepare for a job interview at Citi

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Citi uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
