Citi is seeking a Director, Custody Sanctions Product Management to build and lead a best-in-class sanctions product function within its global Custody business.

In this high-profile role, you will own the end-to-end sanctions product strategy, control framework, operating model, and governance globally — acting as the definitive Custody authority on all sanctions matters.

Sitting at the intersection of product management, regulatory compliance, and operational risk, this position offers the opportunity to shape sanctions capability at scale across one of the world's leading custodian banks.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the long-term sanctions product strategy for Citi's Custody business, ensuring architecture and technology remain policy compliant, operationally efficient, and commercially aligned.
  • Own the Target Operating Model and Target Architecture, directing technology investment to meet business, regulatory, and client requirements across global markets.
  • Design and implement sanctions controls in response to new products, policy changes, and evolving regulatory requirements, owning key governance documents including Sanctions Product Risk Assessments.
  • Lead the resolution of sanctions issues end-to-end, defining requirements and driving delivery across Technology, Operations, and control stakeholders as the senior escalation point.
  • Represent Citi as the authoritative Custody sanctions product expert in client discussions, due diligence meetings, and negotiations, supporting clients through high-profile transactions with a sanctions nexus.
  • Build, manage, and develop a high-performing Custody Sanctions product team, setting clear objectives and growing team capability as the function scales.
  • Sponsor and author Custody sanctions training programmes in response to regulatory developments and emerging risks, championing a strong culture of sanctions compliance across the business.
  • Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Extensive of experience in product management, risk, or operations within regulated financial services, with significant Securities Services or custodian bank background.
  • Deep knowledge of sanctions compliance frameworks, global transaction processing, and regulatory requirements specific to custody and securities services.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale operating models from the ground up, delivering change across technology, operations, and regulatory programmes.
  • Proven experience designing, testing, and remediating sanctions controls, including ownership of Control Assessment frameworks and governance reporting.
  • Solid leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in complex, matrixed global organisations, with the ability to influence across business lines without direct authority.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and executive presentation skills, with confidence presenting to regulators, boards, and senior management.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent university qualification preferred

  • Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • Practical understanding of how artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation tools can enhance sanctions screening, risk monitoring, and operational efficiency, with the ability to engage credibly with technology partners on data-centric programmes.
  • Active contribution to industry forums, publications, or regulatory engagement on sanctions and financial crime topics.
  • In-depth knowledge of competitor products and services within the sanctions and securities services landscape.
