Summary

We are looking for a senior engineering leader, with proven experience building and managing large complex applications in the Capital Markets Derivatives domain, to help implement Counterparty Credit Risk and Capital technology solutions for Citi’s trading desks, risk management and regulatory capital clients.

Team Background

The Derivatives Credit Risk and Capital Technology Team is responsible for delivering software solutions to Citi’s Markets Trading desks, Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) Management and Finance Capital Controller organizations which manage Citi’s exposure to financial institutions, governments and corporates that trade with Citi. The team builds and maintains the software stack used to compute metrics that help mitigate Citi’s exposure to counterparty default. The solutions include consumption of trades, collateral, market data, counterparty and security reference data from a large number of sources, and the computation of optimal margin allocation for portfolios and trades, haircut for security and cash collateral, trade and collateral liquidity, collateral concentration levels and wrong way risk, amongst others that feed into the computation of Pre-Settlement Risk (PSE), Settlement Risk, Exposure at Default (EAD) and Risk Weighted Assets (RWA). Additionally, the team is responsible for the aggregation and reporting Regulatory Capital across 16 countries globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong hands-on engineering leadership driving key architectural decisions and implementing foundational frameworks that can be leveraged by the exposure processing teams.
  • Lead a global project team of software engineers delivering engineering solutions solving complex business problems for Citi’s Counterparty Credit Risk user community which includes Risk management, Sales and Trading, Capital Controllers, Capital Optimization and Regulatory reporting groups.
  • Ensure solutions implemented by the team adhere to the appropriate architectural and design patterns in the systems. Utilize in-depth knowledge of technical and business domain concepts and procedures within own area and basic knowledge of other areas to resolve issues.
  • Enforce industry standard SDLC best practices for effectively managing the codebase.
  • Influence and negotiate with senior technical leaders from partner teams of software engineers, dev-ops and production support staff to deliver robust software solutions. Ensure the team is collaborating effectively across functions.
  • Advance the derivatives exposure processing software infrastructure by continuously adopting new technologies where appropriate to solve business problems while adhering to Citi’s architectural guidelines.
  • Appropriately assess risk when technical and business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Knowledge and Experience

Ideal background

  • Proven engineering experience building robust, scalable and maintainable applications in the Capital Markets Technology industry. Proven application development experience.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role, with experience leading global technology teams.
  • Expert knowledge of industry best practices and standards.
  • Experience re-engineering large monolithic applications to modern distributed platforms.
  • Experience re-engineering complex franchise critical applications.
  • Good understanding of the mechanics of derivatives products and their risk management.
  • Experience with Counterparty Credit Risk, Capital or Market Risk is a significant advantage.

Skills

Extensive practical experience working with most if not all the technologies listed below.

  • Java Core with extensive hands-on experience with concurrent programming.
  • Spring Framework including Core, Integration and Batch.
  • Distributed Caching frameworks such as Ignite, Gemfire, Oracle Coherence or equivalent.
  • Cloud computing technologies with practical experience working with containers, microservices and large datasets (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Databases – RDBMS preferably Oracle, NoSQL preferably MongoDB
  • Familiarity with Linux environment including scripting skills
  • SDLC/Dev Ops – Git/BitBucket, CI/CD pipeline frameworks such as Jenkins, SonarQube, JIRA, Any secure coding toolkits.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Graduate in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) discipline. Master’s degree an advantage.
