Are you passionate about supporting young people and creating inclusive, safe environments where learners can thrive? CITB is looking for a dedicated Welfare Manager to lead our Welfare Team and champion the wellbeing of our residential learners across NCC sites.

Role: Welfare Manager

Location: NCC East, Bircham Newton (Norfolk) with regular travel to the other colleges in Erith (Kent) and Inchinnan (Scotland)

Hours of Work: Full-time, 35 hours per week including evenings and weekends

Contract Type: Permanent

Grade: SL1

Target Salary: £58,633 per annum

Special Requirements: This role also involves working outside of normal working hours, e.g. evening and weekends to provide cover and line management to the team where required. The post holder will also act as point of contact to facilitate ‘Out of Hours’ emergency telephone escalation process.

About the Role

As Welfare Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the mental, physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of our learners. You’ll lead a team of welfare professionals, working collaboratively with Safeguarding Leads, Health & Safety, and curriculum teams to deliver a high standard of support and personal development opportunities.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and mentoring the Welfare Team to deliver outstanding learner support
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation and DfE Residential Accommodation Standards
  • Organising engaging personal development activities and national awareness campaigns
  • Acting as a key liaison with external agencies, including the Police, regarding welfare concerns
  • Managing welfare inductions and creating a vibrant, inclusive environment outside training hours
  • Supporting learners with travel, wellbeing needs, and safeguarding concerns
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to quality improvement plans

Your Experience:

We’re seeking a compassionate and proactive people leader who:

  • Has experience managing a team within welfare or safeguarding services for 16+ learners, ideally in an educational or residential setting
  • Demonstrates previous line management experience with strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Is confident handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
  • IT literacy and must be comfortable working with systems such as SharePoint and Microsoft Office, as well as producing reports and analysing data
  • Can work flexibly, including unsociable hours, and travel across sites
  • Is committed to fairness, inclusion, and respect in all interactions
  • Experience or a qualification in Youth Work would be an advantage
