Hours of Work – Full-time (35 hours per week)

Working Pattern – Based in Peterborough with flexible working with at least 1 day in the office per week, subject to business requirements

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Project Support Officer to join our recently established Central Portfolio Office (CPO) to work directly on a high-profile transformation programme that spans multiple areas of the business. You will work closely with the Programme Manager and Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) to ensure there is robust governance, planning and reporting across the programme and its constituent projects and workstreams. You will play a critical role in ensuring the programme is delivered successfully with proportionate governance, transparency and control.

This is a key role in supporting the successful delivery of change at CITB by ensuring projects and programmes comply with the CITB Project Design and Delivery Framework, by overseeing the needs of the changes, projects and portfolio to support overall governance, whilst ensuring that all improvement initiatives and portfolio projects follow the agreed delivery framework, policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality project and programme support, ensuring adherence to governance, quality, and assurance standards.
  • Coordinate programme reports, dashboards, and board papers.
  • Support day-to-day programme controls (RAID management, planning, resourcing, benefits tracking).
  • Maintain programme documentation, support audits and reviews, and ensure documentation standards.
  • Manage schedules, track progress, highlight risks, and support financial tracking.
  • Develop Power BI dashboards, maintain data integrity, and contribute to portfolio-level reporting.
  • Refine PMO tools and processes, capture lessons learned, and promote standardised frameworks.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, prepare communications and coordinate board meetings.
  • Mentor Project Support Officers and help build team capability.

Essential:

  • APM PFQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale programmes or portfolios within a structured environment (e.g. APM, PMI, PRINCE2, Agile).
  • Strong understanding of project governance, risk and issue management, and programme reporting.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI capability for data analysis and dashboard creation.
  • Experience with MS Project, Project Online, or equivalent PPM tools.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the Government Functional Standard for Project Delivery (GovS 002).
  • Experience working within a public sector or arm’s-length body environment.
  • Knowledge of change and benefits management approaches.
