About CirrusHQ CirrusHQ is an AWS Premier Partner on a strong growth trajectory. We partner with organisations across the Public Sector, Education, and Private Sector to design, build, migrate, and support cloud infrastructure that genuinely moves the needle for our customers. We're looking for a Solutions Architect to join our team — someone who thrives on variety, takes ownership, and loves turning complex problems into elegant cloud solutions.
About the Role: No two weeks look the same here. One month you might be designing automated exam environments for an education provider; the next, building a virtual classroom that streams applications to students across the globe, or helping a university digitise a museum collection. We've even supported projects collecting climate data from the stratosphere. As a Solutions Architect, you'll own the full project lifecycle — from the first scoping call with a customer through to final sign-off. In this hands-on role, you'll lead architectural design, write Statements of Work, and work directly alongside a team of Cloud Engineers to deliver to the highest standards, on time and within budget. The AWS Well-Architected Framework isn't an afterthought here — it's built into everything we do. You'll also play a key role in growing the team around you: unblocking problems, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with the Head of Technical Operations to improve the processes and automation that underpin our delivery. This is a fully remote role based in the UK, with travel to customers and events as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Lead scoping and design calls to gather requirements and produce accurate, detailed estimates
- Translate customer problems into architectural solutions that deliver real business value
- Write clear, precise Statements of Work and high-level architectural designs
- Work alongside and mentor Cloud Engineers throughout project delivery
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for live projects
- Collaborate on process, tooling, and automation improvements
- Contribute to our NPS score, AWS partnership programmes, and business growth
- Participate in an out-of-hours on-call escalation rota
Experience (Essential):
- AWS Solutions Architect – Professional certification
- 3+ years hands-on experience with core AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Load Balancing)
- 2+ years work experience designing and building AWS solutions end-to-end
- 2+ years work experience running customer scoping and requirements sessions (remote and in-person)
- 2+ years work experience working with modernisation patterns — containerisation, microservices, and the like
- 2+ years work experience working with CI/CD and deployment best practices across multiple environments (AWS-native tooling preferred)
- 1+ year’s work experience designing and building serverless solutions (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, Step Functions)
- Proven ability to scope and estimate work across varied team skillsets
- Experience migrating on-premise environments to AWS
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Experience (Desirable):
- AWS Specialty certification
- Experience with ML/AI services (SageMaker, AWS AI services)
- Familiarity with on-premise environments (hypervisors, storage, backup vendors)
- Scripting ability, preferably Python
Benefits:
- 34 Days Annual Leave
- Company Pension
- Private Healthcare plan
- Ability to work from home
- Family Friendly working environment
- Professional development and support
- Everyone has a voice and makes a direct and valued contribution to building the best products possible
