This is electrical architecture for mobile, safety-critical defence system equipment operating in harsh land and maritime environments. If you’ve designed electrical power distribution for vehicles, transportable systems or military platforms, this will feel familiar.
The Role
You’ll define and own the electrical architecture across Weapon System Equipment, covering:
- Extra Low Voltage and Low Voltage electrical design
- Grounding, bonding, screening and EMC-conscious layouts
- Platform and vehicle-based power supply and distribution
- Electrical installation design for mobile systems
- Certification to BS 7671 for transportable or military equipment
- Integration of electro-mechanical machinery in constrained environments
You’ll work at system level, decomposing requirements, defining interfaces and ensuring electrical safety and compliance from early concept through production. This is design authority level responsibility, not just drawing production.
What Makes This Interesting
You’ll be solving problems where:
- Space is limited
- Environments are harsh
- Power stability is critical
- Certification matters
- Failure is not an option
You’ll influence early lifecycle architecture decisions and provide certification and sign-off expertise across programmes.
What We’re Looking For
You’re likely to have:
- Practical experience in LV/ELV electrical installation design
- Experience with mobile, transportable, vehicle or defence platforms
- Knowledge of BS 7671 certification in non-domestic environments
- Experience in grounding, bonding and EMC-aware design
- Experience with safety-critical electro-mechanical systems
Desirable:
- Uninterruptible power systems design
- Military or defence exposure
- Experience supporting trials and testing of electrical installations
Qualification equivalent to City & Guilds Level 3 or above in Electrical Installations. HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering advantageous.
You will need to be a British Citizen or a dual national with British citizenship for security clearance.
