We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Newbury team. This is a highly hands-on role working closely with engineers across multiple disciplines, helping turn designs and prototypes into working hardware.

You will take ownership of practical engineering activities across the lab. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who enjoys solving problems, working with precision and seeing the direct impact of their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced surface-mount soldering, assembly, repair and rework on PCBs, including fine-pitch components (CSP, BGA, QFN, 0402, 0201, 01005).
  • Build and modify custom cable assemblies, prototype boards and hardware platforms.
  • Use schematics, layouts, specs and rework instructions to assemble, debug and repair at board and system level.
  • Set up and maintain engineering test stations.
  • Execute defined test plans and basic test sequences against specifications.
  • Support engineers in diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Help develop, document and improve lab procedures and technical records.
  • Maintain lab inventory and asset records, including calibration and maintenance.
  • Procure lab consumables.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams, coordinating lab activities, bench projects and technical support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A completed apprenticeship in electrical or electronic engineering, or equivalent practical experience in an engineering, electronics, manufacturing, test or lab environment.
  • A degree or other formal qualification is welcome, but not essential.
  • Strong hands-on soldering skills and PCB repair/rework experience.
  • Experience with standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, layouts, specs and rework documentation.
  • Good mechanical skills to adapt prototype hardware.
  • Methodical documentation and asset-management approach.
  • Clear communication and confidence working across teams; collaborative problem-solving.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic programming or scripting (C or Python).
  • Familiarity with schematic-capture tools.
  • Experience supporting R&D, validation, electronics manufacturing or similar.
