Project Engineer – Utility Scale Solar/BESS projects UK – Remote with some travel.

Circular Resourcing are recruiting for a Project Engineer with experience specifically across Solar PV and BESS / Energy Storage. This role is a permanent position working for a global engineering consultancy with a growing UK presence in the UK/European markets. Their Owner’s Engineering Department provides engineering services for Developers, Owners, and Operators of Utility Scale PV Solar projects owners and solar developers at every stage of a project including:

  • EPC Scope of Work
  • Technical Exhibit Development
  • Request for Proposal Development and Evaluation
  • EPC Contract Exhibit Review
  • PV and HV Design Review
  • Construction oversight, including RFI and Submittal Approval
  • Construction status and quality inspections
  • Contractual Documentation Review
  • Capex, Opex, and schedule due diligence and evaluation
  • Testing and commissioning oversight and review
  • Milestone verification
  • Warranty, operations and maintenance support
  • Technical troubleshooting and testing

Responsibilities

Responsible for overseeing execution of Utility Scale PV Solar and BESS projects through the development, design, construction, and commissioning phases.

  • Maintain an intimate knowledge and understanding of project documentation, including but not limited to: Civil, Electrical, and Structural Plans and Design, Installation manuals, EPC Contract, Power Purchase Agreement, Connection Agreement, Planning Permissions, Schedule.
  • Oversee project execution through the project lifecycle to ensure scope, cost, schedule, and quality goals are met.
  • Manage stakeholder meetings and communications to monitor project status, track deliverables, as well as identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Prepare regular status reports to the Client to identify and communicate risks to scope, cost, and schedule and develop mitigation plans and recommendations for said risks.
  • Assist the Client in maintenance and retention of key project documents.
  • Review the EPC Contractor’s progress reports and analyse the project schedule, cost, and quality documentation and provide recommendations to the Client.
  • Provide technical support on the construction methodology proposed by the EPC Contractor, evaluating advantages, disadvantages and potential cost savings or increase costs associated with variation claims.
  • Review and approval of submittals, CO, RFI, and NCRs, to determine their validity against the specifications of the EPC Contract and known local conditions of the project site.
  • Monitor open submittals to ensure closeout within EPC guidelines.
  • Work closely with EPC Contractor, and internal engineering resources to review and approve Utility Scale PV & BESS plant drawing packages at various stages of the design to ensure compliance with owner scope of work (SOW), technical specifications, applicable codes & standards, contractual documents, and good industry practices.
  • This may include: Project layouts, single line diagrams, collection system studies, and equipment installation details.
  • Calculations and studies including, but not limited to, load flow, grounding, short circuit, arc flash, ampacity, geotechnical, structural, etc.
  • Identification of gaps in scope, specifications, cost, and schedule, and driving resolution of these issues.
  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to address all technical concerns, deliverables, along with any issues and challenges encountered during the project, and to ensure design deliverables and schedules meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate and support for the delivery of 'as built' drawings by the EPC Contractor and provide an exception report as part of the defects list.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in Solar PV or BESS Project Management, Engineering, or Construction of utility scale projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Strong understanding of PV, BESS & Substation Construction standards, processes, quality, schedule, and budget control.
  • Able to interpret construction documents, including drafted plans, sections, elevations, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of Solar PV and BESS components, including modules, inverters, racking systems, and Balance of Plant.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical, civil, structural design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
  • Strong understanding of grid codes and compliance at distribution and transmission levels.
