We are looking for a full-time Power Systems Engineer with technical experience and commercial awareness of the GB power system. As a Power Systems Engineer, you will work with an experienced team of consultants and play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our consultancy services.
The role will involve power systems analysis on HV, MV and LV distribution for small and large-scale renewables, infrastructure/data centre and other mission critical projects.
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day technical delivery and design calculations for assessing electrical loads on buildings, sizing utility connections, generators, uninterruptible power supplies and renewable technologies, together with associated earthing and distribution systems.
- Design services for multi-disciplinary projects across a number of building sectors.
- Produce design deliverables including specifications, drawings, and schedules, including design and calculations of substations and points of connections from LV to HV.
- Undertake load flow, fault level, G5/5 harmonic and protection studies.
- Mentor and support junior engineers.
About you:
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
- Proven experience working as a Power Systems, HV Engineer or Grid Connection Engineer with a demonstrable record delivering on complex projects.
- Experience of modern technical delivery processes, and use of relevant software/tools such as BIM, Revit, CAD electrical ETAP, Amtech or EOM.
- Conversant in power systems high voltage substation design, earthing arrangements, CT calculations, arc flash calculations, differential protection and stability slopes etc. and rate of rise voltage calculations.
- LV system analysis software to model complex networks and run advanced power systems studies.
- Power quality capability to undertake studies for G99 export applications, including harmonics.
- Ability in producing schematic designs, fault discrimination studies, preparing specifications and reports, and carrying out site inspections of surveys and detailed design development.
- A passion for accurate power design systems is key.
- Ability to carry out studies such as G5/5 harmonics, load flow, fault studies, transient studies and protection coordination studies.
- Consultative and able to work and communicate with our clients and contractors in a design-oriented/consultant role.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Project Leadership: Carry out technical studies including load flow, fault level, harmonic analysis, dynamic studies of electricity networks leading to the successful completion of projects (DIgSILENT, IPSA, PSCAD).
- Experience with network planning/design, SQSS compliance and power system modelling of connecting generators and strategic reinforcement projects across both distribution and transmission levels.
- Oversee and manage complex projects from inception to completion.
Essential requirements include:
- Degree/Masters degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related qualification.
- At least 3 years relevant industry experience.
- Experience in writing technical project reports.
- Experience of network modelling and analysis in any one of the commercial software packages such as IPSA, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD.
- Knowledge of the Great Britain transmission and distribution systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-rounded individual with the ability to deliver work individually, or as part of a team.
- Ability to engage with clients, forming long term and mutually beneficial relationships.
