Personal Assistant – Care at Home Supporting Children with Learning and Physical Disabilities Location: Borehamwood Contract: 12 hours per week Pay: £16.00 per hour on weekdays and £18.00 per hour at weekends Additional hours: Available during school holidays About the Children Working within this family home, you will support two fabulous children aged 10 and 7. E and L live at home in Borehamwood with Mum, Dad and their pet dog. They are loving, engaging children who enjoy being around people and listening to music. L particularly enjoys watching Hey Duggee and Peppa Pig on the iPad. Both children enjoy swimming and hydrotherapy at school, visiting the farm and spending time in the school sensory room. They also have a family dog who E loves helping to walk and care for. L is a loving, strong-minded and happy young boy who communicates non-verbally through sounds, facial expressions and body language. He enjoys cause-and-effect toys and other activities involving coordination. E is strong-minded, determined and full of energy. She communicates verbally and through body language. E enjoys visiting the farm and has lots of role-play activities in her room, which she enjoys playing with. About the Role The family requires support for three after-school sessions each week and one weekend daytime session. E and L’s daily routines include personal care, observations and completing their therapy programmes. Previous experience working with children with complex behavioural presentations would be ideal due to E and L’s sensory and emotional needs. Experience supporting with incontinence management and pad changes would also be beneficial. Above all, your personality, passion and commitment to supporting the children are the most important qualities. Hours and Shifts Weekdays: - Three shifts between Monday and Friday - 3:45pm–6:45pm Weekend: - Saturday - 10:00am–4:00pm Additional hours are available during the school holidays. You may already be working as a Children’s Support Worker, Care Assistant, Personal Assistant or Learning Disability Support Worker. You may instead be a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Teaching Assistant (TA) or SEN Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with special educational needs. As most of the hours are after school, this opportunity could fit particularly well alongside an existing education-based role. Alternatively, you might have experience in childcare, home care or supporting children with physical disabilities, complex needs or challenging behaviour.
