Biomedical Scientist Pure Lab-UK - London 37.5 Hours & Permanent Salary: Up to £45,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

We have an opportunity for an Biomedical Scientist to join their team of staff in the Histology department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week.

The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

This role supports the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services and requires participation in extended working hours, weekends, and Bank Holiday rotas.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Histology Biomedical Scientist looking to further develop their career within a progressive diagnostic laboratory service.

Duties of this role include

  • Receive, process, analyse and report patient specimens using appropriate scientific techniques, instrumentation and methodologies within your scope of practice.
  • Undertake routine and, where appropriately trained and competent, complex and specialist laboratory investigations.
  • Undertake complex investigations and specialist techniques requiring advanced technical knowledge, experience and professional judgement.
  • Provide appropriate scientific and technical advice to clinicians and other healthcare professionals regarding laboratory investigations.
  • Work in accordance with the laboratory Quality Management System and support compliance with ISO 15189 and relevant UKAS accreditation requirements.
  • Operate complex laboratory instrumentation safely and competently in accordance with manufacturer requirements and laboratory procedures.
  • Support the induction, training, competency assessment and development of Medical Laboratory Assistants, trainee Biomedical Scientists and other laboratory colleagues.
  • Manage and prioritise your workload effectively to support agreed laboratory turnaround times and service standards.
  • Ensure specimens are handled, prepared, stored and processed appropriately throughout the diagnostic pathway.

Applicants should meet the following criteria

  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, or an equivalent qualification acceptable for HCPC registration.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in a Histology laboratory.
  • Appropriate practical laboratory training and demonstrated competence within a diagnostic laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of laboratory analytical techniques relevant to the discipline.
  • Understanding of quality management, Internal Quality Control and External Quality Assessment principles.
  • Understanding of ISO 15189 and UKAS requirements within medical laboratories.
  • Ability to analyse, validate and authorise laboratory results within an agreed competency framework.
  • Ability to recognise abnormal, critical or potentially erroneous results and respond appropriately.
  • Experience using laboratory instrumentation and Laboratory Information Management Systems.

  • Histological specimen dissection.
  • Tissue embedding.
  • Microtomy.
  • Digital Pathology.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Special staining techniques.
