We have an opportunity for a Surgical Care Practitioner to join our team in the Theatre department. This is a bank role working on an "as and when required" basis – you will supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior scrub for a range of orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements, arthroscopies, trauma and spinal surgeries.
  • Prepare and handle specialist instrumentation and equipment – e.g. power tools, implants, navigation systems – in line with manufacturers' guidance and surgical protocols.
  • Take a senior role in preparing theatres, coordinating surgical lists and ensuring all equipment, staff and resources are in place.
  • Champion the use of WHO Surgical Safety Checklists, infection prevention practices and adherence to clinical governance requirements.
  • Mentor newly qualified practitioners, students and team members, supporting skill development in orthopaedic scrub techniques and patient care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Significant experience in the peri‑operative setting with specialist knowledge in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Proven ability to scrub for a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, including complex cases.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, infection control and safety practices in theatre.
