Location and Hours: Lancaster Hospital, Bank shifts – bank role working on an “as and when required” basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.
  • Help patients with eating, drinking and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.
  • Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
  • Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
  • Support basic clinical procedures including wound care set‑up, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention and mobility aids.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds and equipment in readiness for patient use.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community or domiciliary).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Basic literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Physically able to undertake duties, including moving and handling tasks.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and confidentiality procedures.
