This bank role operates on an “as and when required” basis, requiring flexibility to work a few shifts per month, covering holidays and additional lists. Shifts may be evening, weekday or Saturday. The work focus is general medical and gynaecology (no obstetrics). The department currently uses a Philips Epiq 5G ultrasound machine but expects a new Canon machine shortly – full training on Canon will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in the efficient and safe operation of the Imaging Department, providing a consistent, high‑quality ultrasound service to all patients.
- Carry out diagnostic ultrasound scans within your scope of competence, meeting high technical and quality standards.
- Assist modality leads to plan and maintain an effective workflow within the department.
- Complete and maintain applicable departmental records, including timely submission of patient charges.
- Participate in and contribute to quality assurance tests within the Imaging Department.
- Participate in supervision, training and peer‑review within your area of competence or expertise.
- Report all equipment malfunctions or faults to the manager and, if necessary, undertake additional action to ensure safe operation of the equipment.
- Comply with department policies, protocols and SOPs, and all relevant mandatory training.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A broad range of sonography competencies matched to the job description.
- Experience of autonomous practice and independent reporting.
- Experience of customer care, including interacting with challenging customers and situations.
- A Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (DMU) or Post‑graduate Certificate/Diploma (Pg Cert / Dip).
- Competency to assess, scan, diagnose and report ultrasound caseload, maintaining accurate patient records at all times.
- Demonstrable understanding of safe clinical practice requirements, health & safety regulations, and good ergonomics to reduce RSI risks.
- Experience in performing and reporting abdominal, renal and gynaecological (transvaginal, transabdominal) examinations.
