We are hiring! Circet Ireland and UK’s Power Division are currently recruiting a Plant Operator to join our team in Northern Ireland. The 360 Degree Digger Driver / Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of excavator plant on overhead powerline construction sites. The role supports the construction, refurbishment, and maintenance of electricity distribution networks up to 33kV, with a strong focus on pole erection, replacement, and general site support activities in line with DNO standards and safety requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operate 360-degree excavators to safely erect, replace, and remove overhead line poles on electricity distribution networks up to and including 33kV.
  • Install and replace stays, earths, foundation baulks, and associated items of plant and equipment in accordance with design specifications and work instructions.
  • Transport, load, unload, and reposition stringing equipment, access equipment, and materials between sites and work locations as required.
  • Assist overhead line crews with general construction and maintenance tasks when excavator operation is not required.
  • Carry out daily plant checks, routine maintenance, and basic servicing to ensure plant remains safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
  • Report defects, damage, or maintenance issues promptly in line with company procedures.
  • Work in compliance with all DNO safety rules, risk assessments, method statements, and environmental controls.
  • Maintain a tidy, safe, and well-organised work area at all times.

  • Operate plant in strict accordance with electricity safety rules, site-specific controls, and manufacturer guidance.
  • Remain vigilant to hazards associated with overhead lines, underground services, and public interfaces.
  • Promote and demonstrate a strong safety culture, stopping work if unsafe conditions arise.

Skills & Experience

  • Essential: Proven experience operating 360-degree excavators on utility or construction sites.
  • Experience working within the electricity sector or similar high-risk environments.
  • Understanding of overhead line construction activities and site operations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support line crews.
  • Desirable: Experience working on DNO networks up to 33kV.
  • CPCS or NPORS qualification for 360-degree excavator operation.
  • Utility-specific safety training (EUSR, SHEA Power).
  • Experience working in rural, roadside, or public-facing environments.
