What will you be doing? Based in South Africa, you will be working as part of the Circana APAC (Australia-based) Item Coding team. An Item Coding Analyst is responsible for adding new FMCG products from channels like supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations into the system (Dictionary). The most important target is to make sure that the products with the highest sales are being added to the Dictionary and placed in the correct product group. By ensuring that the objective coding rules are being followed and kept up-to-date, the Dictionary Coding employee makes sure that new products will get coded with high quality.

The employee will be assigned to own product groups, whereby all important product characteristics like brand, flavour, package, size, etc. are being captured in the database. Different tools are available to ensure a consistent database which will be used as the input for client databases. The employee will grow towards a product group expert and will be available for questions from internal departments about product groups or individual EANS.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assigning of new FMCG items into the correct product group
  • Objective, accurate, consistent and correct coding of new FMCG products
  • Identifying new trends and capturing those within your product groups
  • Ongoing updating of coding rules to ensure relevancy and high quality
  • Sharing daily updates during the DMS (Daily Standup)
  • Replying on questions from both internal and external clients related to your product groups
  • Co-operating with your team and other departments to ensure on-time delivery
  • Improving team/individual KPIs
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining strong internal cross-departmental relationships with local and APAC colleagues
  • Keeping all relevant documentation updated
  • Follow the operational item Coding processes and identify improvement opportunities
  • Actively seeks out client product performance in the market to keep relevant
  • Display a solid understanding of the business and our service offerings
  • Attends training, business updates, knowledge shares and team events as and when required
  • Adheres to and enforces all relevant policies and procedures
  • Communicates issues and deadlines to Manager and or team leads as required

Requirements

  • Ability to start work from 7:00 am to enable team meetings and handovers with APAC teams
  • Associate’s degree (e.g. BCom/BSc)
  • Working knowledge of Data Models is advantageous
  • 2+ years FMCG or Data Management experience
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Time management
  • Used to work with KPIs / targets
  • Hands-on mentality, resourceful & results oriented
  • Accurate, consistent, team player, flexible
  • Analytically strong
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
