Senior Corporate Counsel, Deputy Chief Privacy Officer is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of our global data privacy program. You will report to the Chief Privacy Officer and work across and build relationships with key leaders in our Sales, Technology (including security, infrastructure, product, and operations), HR, and Legal teams.

You can expect that your time will be comprised of responding to data privacy questions from our internal teams, leading the continuous improvement of our data privacy program (including by monitoring and interpreting changes in data privacy laws globally), and negotiating data privacy and information security terms in our commercial contracts. Most of the interactions within your team and across the organization will be through a virtual work environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary contact for, and develop trusting relationships with, internal teams on data privacy matters globally.
  • Research and monitor proposed changes to data privacy laws globally (including U.S. state laws applicable to data brokers, targeted advertising, and health data) with keen sensitivity to each jurisdiction's nuances and differences in terminology, interpretation, and enforcement.
  • Distill complicated legal and business requirements globally, and identify and implement practical solutions within challenging parameters, such as short timeframes, difficult vendors, and many internal stakeholders.
  • Drive best practices and continuous improvement for data privacy across the global Circana business, including with respect to notice, consent, rights, cross-border data transfers, and impact assessments.
  • Protect Circana and drive business deals by independently managing difficult negotiations of data privacy, information security, and risk allocation terms in commercial contracts.
  • Train internal audiences on data privacy with programming suitable for all employees as well as by attending department meetings to present issues and solutions most relevant to them.
  • Manage data privacy registrations with government bodies globally.
  • Cooperate with our Works Councils on data privacy matters.
Requirements
  • Senior leader with extensive data privacy experience.
  • Law degree and admission to practice in an EU member state or the UK.
  • Comprehensive expertise in the data privacy laws of many jurisdictions - Global.
  • Strong grasp of ISO 27701 or similar data privacy frameworks and working knowledge of adjacent frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001).
  • Strong change management skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders across functions and countries and to design and implement efficient, sustainable processes and tools.
  • Data privacy experience in B2B and B2C environments.
  • Consistent success in first-time situations.
  • Ability to communicate key issues in simple, succinct ways and to pivot and respond to stakeholders' questions and challenges.
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations independently with Circana and client leaders and to be respected when providing difficult feedback.
  • Ability to raise the understanding of and attention to data privacy throughout large global organizations.
  • Track record of increasing your effectiveness and productivity through using approved AI systems for work.
  • Manage outside counsel to deliver value rather than allowing outside counsel manage you.
  • Consistent success persuading others to accept your client's data privacy, information security, and risk allocation terms for commercial contracts when your client is a data processor with low bargaining power.
Additional Relevant Experience

The ideal candidate will also have a strong grasp of (1) AI laws, including the EU AI Act, and AI governance, and/or (2) information governance, including data mapping and record retention.
