Role Purpose

The Legal Intern will support the EU Legal team for managing contracts and legal operations, while gaining hands‑on exposure to in‑house legal workflows. The role focuses on assisting with contract reviews, maintaining trackers and databases, coordinating with stakeholders, and supporting budgeting and record‑keeping activities. The intern will also track budgets and ensure all external legal engagements and disbursements remain within approved budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Review & Supervised Transaction Support: Assist with first‑level reviews of NDAs, service agreements, statements of work, and amendments using standard templates. Prepare summary notes, cover emails, and issue lists for review by central legal team. Manage the execution lifecycle under supervision: version control (clean/track), DocuSign/e‑signature routing, signatory briefing notes, and filing of fully executed documents in designated repositories.
  • Coordination with Central Legal Team: Coordinate and schedule alignment calls and prepare agenda; capture minutes, action owners, and timelines. Maintain a contract & advice tracker (status, owners, critical dates, risk flags) and circulate weekly updates. Ensure that only central‑approved legal positions are communicated externally; maintain a record of approvals and final sign‑offs.
  • Legal Research & Knowledge Support (Supervised): Conduct targeted legal research on statutes, regulatory guidance, industry codes, and prepare short, structured research notes. Support in updating contract templates based on recurring negotiation points and approved fallbacks.
  • Budgeting, Cost Control Support & External Counsel Coordination: Maintain a simple budget log for external counsel and legal vendors (approved budgets, rates, PO/PR numbers, actuals, and variance notes). Verify that any new matters are backed by an approved budget or approval to exceed before initiating external work. Coordinate quote/fee estimate comparisons from empanelled firms, as instructed. Track invoices, work assignment updates, and accruals with Finance.
  • Governance, Record‑Keeping & Compliance Hygiene: Ensure basic document hygiene during finalization. Follow record retention and naming conventions; maintain an organised folder structure on SharePoint/Drive/CLM. Support periodic compliance attestations/CAPA follow‑ups by tracking responses and updating trackers.

Qualifications

LLB (currently pursuing graduation or recently graduated). Prior internships in contracts, corporate/commercial law, or in‑house legal preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Legal & Technical: Working knowledge of contract structures (scope, fees, IP/confidentiality, indemnity/liability, termination, governing law) and issue‑spotting basics. Familiarity with version control and e‑signature tools (e.g., DocuSign). MS Word (Track Changes), Excel (trackers), PowerPoint (briefs), SharePoint/Drive; exposure to CLM is a plus.
  • Business & Process: Strong organisation and follow‑through; keeps trackers current and documents filed correctly. Budget awareness: respects approval flows, logs spend, and escalates potential overruns early. Stakeholder alignment: obtains Finance/HR/business confirmations before circulation; clear written communication.
