London, Wimbledon (flexible and hybrid working)

The role

As a Credit Controller, you'll provide a comprehensive and effective credit control service for the organisation and its enterprises, while supporting the finance team with sales ledger administration and query resolution.

You'll need strong customer service skills, combined with the confidence and assertiveness to deal with non-payers professionally and diplomatically. As with all roles within Finance, flexibility and adaptability are essential to meet department deadlines and maintain internal controls.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing a credit control service for CIPD and CIPD Enterprises Ltd, chasing outstanding debt via email and telephone to expedite payment of invoices within agreed payment terms and conditions
  • Following up with telephone calls to reinforce the need for prompt payment
  • Posting cash received for CIPD and CIPD Enterprises Ltd
  • Investigating queries raised on outstanding invoices, liaising with Finance and other areas to resolve queries quickly and efficiently
  • Assisting in the resolution of queries on internal and external customer accounts, with a proven background in managing complex ledgers
  • Covering staff absence within the Sales Ledger Team
  • Working collaboratively as part of a wider Finance team and with internal stakeholders - you will have regular involvement with other teams such as Events, Training, Employer Engagement and other departments.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confident communicator, comfortable negotiating and having difficult conversations around late/non-payment with tact and professionalism
  • Proven experience in credit control, collections, or accounts receivable, ideally with a track record of reducing DSO or bad debt
  • Solid understanding of credit control processes, the order-to-cash cycle, and credit risk assessment
  • Hands-on experience with accounting/ERP systems ("e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage, NetSuite, Xero") and strong Excel skills
  • Awareness of relevant regulations ("e.g., late payment legislation, GDPR")
  • Strong relationship management skills - able to balance firmness with maintaining positive client relationships
  • Well organised, with the ability to manage a high-volume workload, multiple accounts, and competing deadlines
  • Resilient, adaptable, and equally comfortable working autonomously or as part of a team
