Veterinary Pharmacy & Purchasing Assistant to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role within a state‑of‑the‑art multidisciplinary veterinary referral hospital, supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care through effective pharmacy, stock management, and procurement operations.

Working as a key member of our Clinical Operations Team, you will ensure the efficient procurement, management, and distribution of medicines, consumables, and equipment across the hospital.

You will work closely with clinicians, nursing teams, client care teams, referring veterinary practices, and pet owners, helping to maintain the highest standards of clinical governance, operational efficiency, and client service.

This position is ideally suited to a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), Suitably Qualified Person (SQP), or an individual with a recognised pharmaceutical qualification and relevant healthcare experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pharmacy & Medication Management
  • Support the safe and compliant handling, storage, dispensing, and distribution of pharmaceuticals in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.
  • Maintain accurate medication records and support controlled drug governance processes.
  • Liaise with pet owners and referring veterinary practices regarding prescription requests and medication queries.
  • Ensure pharmacy stock is maintained at optimal levels to support uninterrupted patient care.
  • Purchasing & Stock Control
  • Procure medications, consumables, and clinical equipment in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
  • Monitor stock levels and manage replenishment processes across all departments.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and inventory reviews, including quarterly stocktakes.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and support financial reconciliation and reporting.
  • Work with suppliers to secure best value while maintaining product quality and availability.
  • Operational & Financial Governance
  • Support the management and monitoring of departmental budgets and expenditure.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with hospital procurement policies and financial controls.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost efficiencies.
  • Assist with the implementation and review of pharmacy and stock management procedures.
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Develop effective working relationships with clinicians, nurses, client care teams, suppliers, and external veterinary practices.
  • Maintain clear, professional, and closed‑loop communication to support efficient service delivery.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients and colleagues, acting as a trusted and approachable point of contact.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative and patient‑focused hospital culture.
  • Administration & Record Management
  • Maintain accurate digital records across multiple platforms and systems.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner.
  • Adhere to hospital standard operating procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Minimum of 1 year's experience within veterinary or human healthcare.
  • Previous experience in pharmacy, pharmaceuticals, purchasing, stock control, or hospital operations.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management and procurement processes.
  • Experience working within a regulated healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and clinical or inventory management systems.

Desirable Qualifications

One or more of the following

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).
  • Suitably Qualified Person (SQP).
  • Diploma or recognised qualification in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a veterinary referral hospital environment.
