We're looking for a Natural Food Colours Technologist to join our R&D and Applications team and play a key role in developing innovative natural colour solutions for food and beverage products. About the Role: As a Natural Food Colours Technologist, you will be responsible for the development, optimisation, and quality control of natural colour formulations across a diverse range of food and beverage applications. As part of the R&D team, you will work closely with Quality, Regulatory, and Commercial teams, supporting projects from concept through to commercialisation while providing expert technical guidance on colour performance and application.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimise natural food colour formulations for a variety of food and beverage applications.
- Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale trials to evaluate colour performance, stability, and sensory impact.
- Perform colour quality control testing using spectrophotometric equipment.
- Measure and verify colour strength, shade, and appearance against established standards and specifications.
- Safely prepare and handle colour solutions, concentrates, and related chemicals in accordance with laboratory procedures and safety requirements.
- Support customer development projects through application testing, sample preparation, and technical consultation.
- Investigate and resolve colour-related challenges within existing products and processes.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver successful product launches.
- Maintain accurate records of formulations, trial results, specifications, and technical documentation.
- When required, help support the wider R&D team with other flavour and ingredient projects.
What We're Looking For:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience in food product development, applications, or formulation within the food and beverage industry.
- Experience in colour formulation is highly desirable. Candidates with colour formulation experience from other sectors, such as cosmetics, paints, coatings, or related industries, are also encouraged to apply.
- Comfortable working within a laboratory environment and handling chemicals safely.
- Strong attention to detail and practical laboratory skills.
- Experience using analytical equipment would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
