This full‑time, salaried teaching position follows a 9.5‑month schedule, including professional development days (185 days total). The third‑grade teacher will work in a self‑contained classroom and will also take on one extracurricular duty during the school year. Teachers report to the Headmaster.

Position Overview

Instructional leadership of students in a general‑education classroom setting. The teacher will implement the Hillsdale K‑12 classical curriculum, deliver instruction, and conduct assessment to maximize achievement for all students, fostering a safe, respectful, and collaborative learning climate.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to classical education and the school's vision, mission, and philosophy.
  • Master central concepts, inquiry tools, and the structure of the discipline(s) taught, and convey this knowledge effectively.
  • Develop and maintain a climate of openness, fairness, mutual respect, kindness, support, and inquiry.
  • Engage every student in grade‑level‑appropriate learning experiences that promote academic, intellectual, and moral development.
  • Interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, leadership, and community members, respecting differing perspectives.
  • Model and reinforce good judgment, prudence, virtue, self‑discipline, and responsibility.
  • Plan strategically, including course, unit, and lesson plans aligned with the Hillsdale K‑12 scope and sequence.
  • Use formal and informal assessment strategies to determine student achievement of high standards, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Create and maintain a safe, secure classroom environment.
  • Manage the classroom primarily through established routines and procedures to maintain a positive learning environment.

  • Perform additional duties as required, such as car line duty, recess duty, or other administrative tasks.
  • Coach one sports season or moderate one semester of a club, based on interest and ability.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of explicit, intensive phonics methodology (e.g., Orton‑Gillingham).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in elementary education or a primary academic discipline.
  • Ohio teacher license (professional, resident educator, or alternative resident educator).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with school‑age children, preferably as a classroom teacher.
