This role’s mission is to ensure the comprehensive maintenance, diagnostic testing, and repair of industrial machinery, electrical installations, and bulk material handling systems. The objective is to guarantee peak technical efficiency of heavy industrial infrastructure, including silos, bucket elevators, pneumatic conveying systems, and ship‑unloading equipment, through an integrated approach combining mechanical fabrication and complex electrical systems. The role also includes proactive coordination of technical interventions and support for the development and optimisation of engineering solutions using computer‑aided design (CAD) tools.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine, emergency, and periodic inspections on mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic conveying systems to minimise operational downtime;
- Diagnose faults within PLC-controlled systems and interpret control schematics and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams;
- Execute mechanical repairs and overhauls, including component replacement, welding, and fabrication;
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and inspection reports to ensure traceability and audit compliance;
- Carry out corrosion protection and wear-management activities, including painting and liner replacement;
- Utilise CAD software to produce technical drawings and mechanical layouts;
- Establish maintenance schedules and assembly sequences, determining required resources and documentation;
- Coordinate the assembly of hydraulic installations and mechanical transmission systems;
- Ensure full compliance with UK Health & Safety regulations and company safety procedures;
- Use formal defect reporting systems and promptly report accidents or near-miss incidents.
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical) or Electromechanical Engineering;
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and/or City & Guilds 2365;
- BTEC Level 3, HNC or HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
- Valid Safety Passport (CCNSG);
- CPCS or NPORS certification (Lifting & Rigging);
- CAD Certification;
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills and experience with PLC-controlled systems (e.g. Siemens, Allen‑Bradley);
- Experience in welding, cutting, grinding, and interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams;
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to manage unforeseen situations;
- High attention to detail and ability to work to strict quality and deadline requirements.
