The Director of Sales, Europe will lead the commercial launch and expansion of Ciliatech across major European markets. This role blends strategic leadership, sales excellence, and surgical training expertise. You will be both a hands-on field leader and a senior commercial strategist, directly responsible for shaping our European commercial footprint while guiding teams to execute with excellence in the operating room. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic, fast-growing environments and wants to directly influence the adoption of a breakthrough ophthalmic technology in Europe. You will report directly to the VP Sales & Marketing.

Location: Remote (Europe). Preferred: United Kingdom, Spain, Italy or France (Lyon).

Mobility: A reliable car suitable for frequent business travel is required. Full clean driving license is mandatory.

Travel readiness: This role involves extensive European travel, sometimes with short notice and including multiple nights staying away from home. You must hold a valid passport with sufficient remaining validity.

Responsibilities

  • Sales Leadership & Market Growth: Build, lead and inspire a high-performing team of Surgical Glaucoma Specialists and Country Managers. Develop and execute a comprehensive European business plan focused on achieving and exceeding sales targets. Work closely with commercial leadership to define and deliver country-level strategies. Identify high-potential surgeons, clinics, accounts and geographic regions. Monitor performance against sales execution plans, updating strategy as needed. Negotiate favorable terms with key hospital accounts and partner institutions. Ensure optimal presence and representation at European congresses and customer events.
  • Surgical Training Excellence: Become a certified Intercil® Surgical Trainer, demonstrating mastery of clinical data, surgical technique and product use. Attain advanced trainer status to certify new associates and ensure OR excellence. Serve as a field “Player-Manager”: demonstrating best practices in the OR and coaching your team directly. Train surgeons and OR staff to the highest standards for safe and effective Intercil® implantation. Maintain deep understanding of MIGS, glaucoma treatments and competitive technologies.
  • Team Development & Performance Management: Deliver world-class onboarding and continuous coaching for all European commercial team members. Lead with high emotional intelligence to guide, motivate and develop your team. Provide clear expectations, structured feedback, and hands-on performance management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Marketing, Surgical Training and Customer Service teams to ensure seamless commercial execution. Contribute to forecasting and promotional planning. Share insights on MIGS market trends, reimbursement, competitors and KOL evolution.
  • Budget & Compliance: Monitor promotional and commercial spend against budget, ensuring strong ROI. Ensure full compliance with legal, ethical and industry standards. Oversee accurate documentation: CRM, training records, customer interactions, etc.

Qualifications

  • Required Skills & Experience: Prior experience in ophthalmic surgical field sales (customer-facing). Proven experience leading and developing commercial teams. Proven experience launching new country. Strong track record of sales success. Fluent in written and spoken English. High emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills. Strong commercial acumen with a strategic mindset. Highly organized, structured and able to manage multiple priorities. Hands-on leader comfortable in both the OR and senior strategic discussions. Willingness to travel extensively across Europe, with flexible schedules.
  • Preferred Skills & Experience: Experience in Glaucoma, MIGS, or ophthalmology markets. Experience in surgical training roles. Background in marketing or broader strategic commercial roles. Additional European language (Italian, Spanish, German or French).
