CIL is a growth strategy consultancy. We help our clients identify opportunities, solve problems and build strategies for long-term success.
We have two offices in the UK – one in London and one in Frome, near Bath. Our London office is based in the heart of The City near Bank / St Pauls, and within easy commuting distance of most parts of London. Our Frome office is located in beautiful Somerset and offers the same great career experience but from a base in the countryside. We also have offices in the USA (Chicago & New York), France (Paris), and Germany (Munich).
Although we work in structured project teams, we are socially very equal, lively and inclusive. There are no corner offices, no cliques – we work in open-plan offices and are not political. We think ‘a culture’ is something other firms have to invent. Ours is the product of the people we employ.
The successful candidate will lead marketing across a set of CIL’s sector practices, translating firmwide priorities into clear sector plans and campaigns. You’ll work closely with senior sector stakeholders to shape messaging and content, oversee delivery across channels (including LinkedIn, email, web and events), and use performance data to keep activity focused and effective. You’ll also coordinate external suppliers where needed and make sure our sector marketing is consistent, well‑executed and aligned globally.
The Sector Marketing Manager role
- Manage strategic marketing planning for each of the firm’s nine sector practices, creating draft marketing plans and setting/managing budgets that are aligned with the firmwide strategy.
- Oversee and report on all marketing activities related to each sector practice.
- Work with sector leads to create compelling content, including thought leadership, insights, talking heads and opinion pieces that resonate with our audiences. This will include copywriting, editing and proofreading.
- Research and develop business development processes for allocated teams. Analyse all marketing activity, drive efficiencies and optimise campaigns.
- Support the Events Specialist on the design and delivery of sector marketing events.
- Mentor and develop junior team members as a career manager, holding informal catch ups and running twice yearly reviews and additional meetings where required.
It is expected that this role can involve a mixture of home and office working (two days per week in the office), although we think the successful candidate would probably benefit from more office time initially to help them get up the curve. We are open to the candidate being based in either our London or Frome office.
Qualification criteria
- A ‘growth mindset’ when it comes to problem solving.
- Motivation and ambition, able to stand on their own two feet.
- Strong team working and people skills.
- Outstanding numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
- Humility and quiet self-confidence – we are not an ‘alpha’ environment.
- A keen sense of humour and broad shoulders.
We have strict qualification criteria for this role. These are:
- 2.1 or higher undergraduate degree from a top university, any discipline.
- Outstanding attention to detail and proofing skills.
- Some knowledge of our industry, and demonstrable enthusiasm in supporting the development of a fast‑growing consulting business, both at an operational and strategic level.
- Completely fluent written and spoken English – other languages an advantage.
- We would be particularly interested in applicants with 4-8 years’ experience in a marketing role, ideally within a professional services firm. However, we strongly encourage any applicant to apply if they feel they meet the criteria set out above, regardless of the current amount of experience that they hold.
Benefits
- Competitive renumeration package, with participation in our company’s discretionary bonus scheme and matched pension contributions of 5% of basic salary.
- Generous holiday entitlement (25 days, with an additional discretionary ‘CIL Day’ around Christmas) with option to purchase five additional days each year.
- Hybrid working, with a guideline of spending at least 40% of your time in‑office.
- Option to join our company private healthcare scheme through Vitality, which includes a Dental, Optical and Audiological cash plan alongside a variety of wellbeing rewards and incentives.
- Life assurance and long‑term sick cover.
- Enhanced parental leave & pay policies.
- Support to undertake training relevant to your role and access to personal online career coaching via a third‑party provider.
- Regular company events & socials.
