Location: Stockport (with some UK and international travel - primarily USA up to 8 times per year)

We are recruiting on behalf of a growing engineering manufacturer in Stockport that designs and builds high-precision inspection and simulation machinery. Due to continued growth and an increase in international projects, they are looking to appoint a Service & Installation Engineer to join their engineering team.

The Service & Installation Engineer role would suit someone with a few years of engineering experience, ideally with an electrical bias, who is looking to take the next step in their career within a technically interesting environment involving installation, commissioning and customer support.

Working closely with the Project Lead and wider engineering team, the Service & Installation Engineer will gain exposure to advanced machinery and international projects while continuing to develop their technical capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation & Field Service
    • The Service & Installation Engineer will support the electrical and mechanical installation of equipment at UK and international client sites.
    • Assist with machine commissioning, configuration and functional testing.
    • Carry out electrical and mechanical fault finding with support from senior engineers.
    • Assist with calibration of cameras, sensors and inspection equipment.
    • Work from engineering drawings, wiring schematics and installation documentation.
    • Support machine alignment, setup and final testing before handover to the client.
  • Workshop & Assembly Support
    • The Service & Installation Engineer will assist with electrical wiring and mechanical assembly of equipment within the Stockport workshop.
    • Support the build and preparation of machinery prior to customer installation.
    • Carry out pre-delivery inspections, testing and equipment checks.
    • Work closely with design and engineering teams to resolve technical queries during assembly.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • The Service & Installation Engineer will complete service reports and installation documentation following site visits.
    • Support commissioning documentation and system records.
    • Ensure work is carried out in line with company standards and health and safety procedures.
    • Assist with quality checks during build and installation activities.
  • Customer Support
    • The Service & Installation Engineer will represent the business professionally when working on customer sites.
    • Provide basic guidance to customers during installation and commissioning.
    • Communicate clearly with the internal engineering team regarding any technical issues identified on site.
Person Specification
  • Essential
    • Previous experience in a Service & Installation Engineer, Service Engineer, Installation Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar engineering role.
    • Hands-on engineering experience with a strong electrical bias.
    • Experience with electrical wiring, machine wiring or panel work.
    • Basic mechanical assembly skills.
    • Ability to read electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
    • Practical fault-finding ability and a problem-solving mindset.
    • Full UK driving licence and valid passport.
    • Willingness to travel internationally (typically 8 trips per year to the USA).
  • Desirable
    • Experience working with automation equipment, robotics, inspection systems or special purpose machinery.
    • Knowledge of sensors, cameras or machine controls.
    • Experience assisting with machine commissioning or installation.

  • Based in Stockport with a minimum of 3 days per week on site when not travelling.
  • 37.5 hour week with flexible start times (core hours by 9:30am).
