Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm

Headway Recruitment is working on behalf of a well established UK engineering and vehicle solutions business to recruit an experienced Compliance & Safety Manager. This is a key hire for our client and forms part of their continued growth and commitment to quality, safety and regulatory excellence.

The Role

As Compliance & Safety Manager, you will take ownership of the organisation's compliance, quality, health and safety framework, working closely with teams across the business to ensure standards are consistently met and continually improved. This position offers genuine influence, visibility and scope to shape processes, embed best practice and support long term business objectives.

The Opportunity

Reporting into senior leadership, the Compliance & Safety Manager will play a pivotal role in strengthening compliance and QHSE processes across the business. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining compliance systems that not only meet regulatory requirements but also support operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance & Standards
    • Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies aligned with current legislation and industry best practice
    • Maintain ISO 9001 certification and third party accreditations including SafeContractor, Avetta and customer specific standards
    • Lead the business towards ISO 14001 accreditation
    • Monitor regulatory changes and provide clear guidance to the leadership team
  • Auditing & Continuous Improvement
    • Conduct internal audits and report on compliance performance
    • Develop and manage QHSE policies, procedures and improvement initiatives
    • Complete supplier questionnaires and support compliance related tender submissions
  • Health & Safety Leadership
    • Champion a positive health and safety culture across all areas of the business
    • Provide expert advice on H&S legislation, policies and safe working practices
    • Manage incident investigations and liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Training & Culture
    • Design and deliver compliance and safety training programmes
    • Support behavioural change initiatives to embed best practice across quality, compliance and safety
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Maintain accurate compliance records, audits, risk assessments and improvement plans
    • Ensure documentation is audit ready and maintained to a high standard

About You

To be successful as Compliance & Safety Manager, you will be confident, organised and able to influence at all levels of the business. You will ideally have:

  • Experience working in a regulated or technical environment
  • At least one year's experience in a QHSE or compliance focused role
  • A recognised health and safety qualification, ideally NEBOSH
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and health & safety legislation
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem solving skills
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage workload effectively
