Job Title: Homeless Support Worker

Job Location: B70 0AJ West Bromwich

Salary: £13.74 per hour

Contract type: Permanent

Working hours: 35 hours per week

Shift Patterns: 7am-3pm or 1pm-9pm. Working 5 days out of 7 which include bank holidays and weekends.

About the role

Chapter House is a 24-hour supported housing project based in West Bromwich and provides temporary accommodation for single homeless people who have support needs. Each person's stay is for up to one year.

This residential scheme offers choices and chances to those who are homeless and may be ex‑offenders. To succeed you need to be enthusiastic, confident and non‑judgemental.

The role involves ensuring the health and well‑being of clients through managing health & safety, fire safety, safeguarding issues, managing risk effectively and working in partnership with the county council's preferred support provider.

The keyworker assists each client in identifying their support needs and empowering them to acquire the skills to achieve their objectives as set out within the support plan, which is reviewed monthly with their key worker.

About you

We are looking to recruit a full-time support worker who has previous experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system and services for homeless and ex‑offenders. You should have excellent communication skills when working with vulnerable people and want to make a difference. A good team player who can work well under pressure is essential.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of experience supporting vulnerable people within a housing or community setting, knowledge of the criminal justice system, and knowledge of the housing sector, in particular supported housing and housing benefits.

Clear understanding of managing risk of harm and risk of re‑offending, the ability to offer advice and guidance, ability to provide practical support that meets clients' needs and the ability to respond to a crisis while remaining calm.
