We’re looking for a Housing Options Officer to join our busy and committed Housing Options team on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis, covering an employee who has been seconded to another team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact while gaining valuable experience within a supportive and professional service. You’ll play a vital role in supporting people at some of the most challenging moments in their lives, helping to prevent homelessness, exploring alternative housing solutions, and providing clear, compassionate advice.
Responsibilities
- Delivering high‑quality housing advice and support to people in housing need.
- Working proactively to prevent homelessness wherever possible.
- Completing assessments under homelessness legislation, including Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996.
- Making lawful, well‑reasoned homelessness decisions in line with legislation, guidance and case law.
- Building strong partnerships with internal teams and external agencies.
- Managing complex and sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism.
- Participating in an out‑of‑hours rota to ensure support is available when needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience and knowledge of housing options and homelessness prevention tools.
- The ability to interpret and apply complex legislation clearly and confidently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A calm, positive approach in a busy and demanding environment.
- Strong listening skills, empathy, and a person‑centred mindset.
